The New Zealand China Council, working with the Asia New Zealand Foundation, the three Confucius Institutes and ILEP, is hosting a conference in Auckland on 13 October on the teaching of Chinese in New Zealand Secondary Schools.
The conference, which is open to all secondary Principals or to their senior staff, will look at the reasons for teaching Chinese in New Zealand, government and employers’ interest in having China-skilled staff, the experience of students studying Mandarin and of Principals who introduced the language to their schools.
The afternoon session will look at various options for teaching the language and professional development opportunities for staff. A range of resource people will be present to share their experiences and to discuss the programmes they represent.
More detail will be available on the NZ China Council website http://www.nzchinacouncil.com/#!chinese-language-learning-conference/cscm or on the sites of the Asia New Zealand Foundation and the three Confucius Institutes in New Zealand.
